A RESOLUTION

Proposing an amendment to the Constitution so as to provide that all members of the General Assembly, both State Senators and State House Representatives, will be subject to strict term limitations.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.

Section II of Article III of the Constitution is amended by revising subsection (a) of Paragraph V as follows:
“(a) The members of the General Assembly shall be elected by the qualified electors of their respective districts for a term of two years and shall serve until the time fixed for the convening of the next General Assembly. No State Senator shall serve more than four consecutive terms in that office, nor shall any state representative serve more than four consecutive terms in that office. This limitation on the number of terms of consecutive service shall apply to terms of office beginning on or after January 1, 2011. No legislator, after serving the maximum number of terms, which shall include any part of a term served, may serve in the same office until he has been out of office for no less than one full term.

SECTION 2.

The above proposed amendment to the Constitution shall be published and submitted as provided in Article III, Section II, Paragraph V, Subsection (a) of the Constitution. The ballot submitting the above proposed amendment shall have written or printed thereon the following:

( ) NO

“Shall the Constitution of Georgia be amended so as to provide that members of the General Assembly, including State Senators and State Representatives, of the State of Georgia will be limited to serving no more than four consecutive two year terms?”

All persons desiring to vote in favor of ratifying the proposed amendment shall vote “Yes.” All persons desiring to vote against ratifying the proposed amendment shall vote “No.” If such amendment shall be ratified as provided in said Paragraph of the Constitution, it shall become a part of the Constitution of this state.
